John McCain is out of touch with the American public.
At a time when nearly 60% of Americans use text messaging, how does the McCain campaign not have a text message element? His competitors, Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton sure seem to be more in touch with the American public, especially younger adults who must find the McCain campaign to be so yesterday.
Text messaging today is as important to the American public as the fireside chats of the FDR era that targeted radio listeners. In fact, statistically, text messaging is more important than radio was in the 1930′s. So why has McCain refused to add a text message mobile marketing element to his campaign?
Barrack Obama is using a cutting edge text message campaign to sway voters. Last summer, the Illinois senator launched a text message initiative to organize volunteers and encourage supports to text GO to 62262 (OBAMA).
The Obama campaign’s site offers free ringtones from Obama’s speeches, Obama wallpapers, and voters can send questions to get policy statements. The text campaign also includes information on how to donate or volunteer for the campaign. Now, that’s change.
Obama’s text campaign is also the only one to regionalize its database. This has been valuable in getting the public out to see the senator during his local political speeches. Prior to one of his regional visits, the Obama text message campaign sends thousands of text messages to his supporters and encourages them to show their support by showing up at his rallys.
While Obama’s text message campaign may be the most active, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards actually had their text message campaigns going before Obama did. Clinton and Edwards are certainly not the only politicians using text message campaigns.
President Bill Clinton recently stated that he’s no longer a text message virgin and he demonstrated such during a speech on his wife’s campaign.
Hillary Clinton’s efforts were admirable, but not nearly to the same effectiveness of Obama’s. The Clinton campaign failed to use a vanity short code and never got the recognition that Obama’s has today. Maybe text messaging is one reason why Obama is the clear favorite of younger voters over both candidates.
Text message campaigns on the political front are clearly here to stay. A University of Michigan and Princeton University study found that using text messages to remind voters to get out and vote increases voter participation by 4% among young voters. Given young adults propensity for using cell phone text messaging, you can bet Obama will be sending reminders on election day.
The efforts of Obama and Clinton contrast starkly to the John McCain campaign that has yet to add any element of mobile marketing. “It’s not surprising given his age,” said Bob Bentz, director of marketing at Advanced Telecom Services that supplies text message solutions to businesses. “Only 11% of those over 65 use text messages and Mr. McCain is a bit older than 65. You would think that somebody on his campaign would have advised Senator McCain that text messaging is an important way to communicate with young, politically-active adults.”
Maybe that’s one reason why Barrack Obama has a huge advantage among younger voters.
When it comes to text messaging, John McCain just doesn’t get it.

Disgraced former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has been in the news quite a bit lately. First, he admitted paternity of his mistress’ child; that revelation was followed by the publication of a tell-all book by former aide Andrew Young that painted an unflattering picture of the politician. Finally, he and his wife Elizabeth have separated. The dissolusion of their marriage seems to parallel the prospects of healthcare reform. The downfall of Edwards could partially explain why Democrats’ attempt at expanding affordable health insurance to all Americans has stalled. During the 2008 primary season, Edwards was further left on the health care issue than either Hillary Rodham Clinton or now-President Barack Obama. As a candidate, Edwards called for universal healthcare reform. He supported the creation of regional health care markets a public option that would compete with private health insurance companies in hopes of lowering costs–as well as increased regulation, employer mandates and subsidies, which made him a darling among the progressive wing of the Democratic party. Some liberals may have wanted a completely Canadian- or European-style single payer system, but the well-groomed, suave Edwards was deemed more electable than the short Rep. Dennis Kuchinich. At the time, his position was more liberal than Obama’s. His hype and support in the early primaries helped push both candidates further towards that viewpoint. Even after he lost the Democratic primary, the Edwards family continued to hold out hope that the former senator would be selected for a position in the Obama administration. After all, fellow primary opponent Clinton was appointed Secretary of State. In order for that to be possible, they attempted to keep the seamy details of Edwards’ affair under wraps. Obviously, they were unsuccessful–reports of secret payments to mistress Rielle Hunter (alleged campaign finance violations) began to spread, hammering the final nail into the coffin of his political hopes. With one of the most prominent advocates of the government-run public option having squandered his voice, liberal Democrats had less leverage against moderates who were against it. Some people speculate that if Edwards was an adviser to the current administration, Obama would have been more adamant about passing a comprehensive health insurance reform bill including the public option, and less likely to allow the Senate to drop it. A position in the current administration would likely have made John Edwards even more egotistical and reckless. However, he would have had some influence in pushing his pet issues. If only for the sake of his own ego (or his wish that both Americas have affordable dental insurance to get teeth as straight as his), he may have been more likely to stick his neck out as opposed to letting Congress debate the issue for months. Despite the fact that his “Two Americas” poverty rhetoric turned out to be phony, a portion of the public was nevertheless convinced. Knowledge of his horrible behavior has not improved the status of the uninsured. At this point, he would be an even worse advocate for healthcare reform than Lady Gaga would be a pitchwoman for Banana Republic. Still, many feel that the issues haven’t evaporated with his reputation. While the recent book The Politician portrays Elizabeth Edwards almost as negatively as her husband, a more charitable interpretation would imply that she participated in the later stages of the cover-up because figured her own humiliation to be less important than what her husband (guided by her) could do for the millions of Americans struggling with a lack of health insurance. A desire to be the First Lady at any cost was certainly a part of it, but Elizabeth’s terminal cancer diagnosis made it unlikely that she could survive for even a single term. Healthcare reform is a personal issue for her, since health insurance companies consider breast cancer to be a pre-existing condition and will refuse to cover treatment. Most cancer patients are not married to rich ex-trial lawyers, and therefore struggle to find affordable health insurance. We will never know how healthcare reform would have turned out if John Edwards had a little more self-control. (Image: Llima under CC 2.0)

While watching coverage of the Iowa caucus, I noticed that the John Edwards supporters are holding up some kind of pie chart or colored wheel. I really don’t know any other way to describe it.

Does anybody know what it represents?

For those of you who are unaware, John Edwards is a predator, he and his fellow trial laywers prey on the medical community, feasting on contingency awards of 30% – 40%.

Doctors, hospitals, nursing homes and the entire medical community pay excessive insurance costs to protect themselves from personal injury lawyers. Insurance companies and drug companies are besieged by these cretins, passing on the expense to the consumer.

With jury awards looking like lotto pay-offs, is it any wonder how predators like Edwards, are gazillionaires, as a result?

For those of you who have had needless cesarians, thank John Edwards.
